Kindeva® selected to pilot extended reality for GMP technician training

August 28, 2026

Facility and regulatory

Kindeva has been selected among a select group of contract development and manufacturing organizations (CDMOs) to participate in BioTools Innovator (BTI) VANGUARD’s Level-UP XR program, an initiative designed to evaluate the effectiveness of extended reality (XR) technologies in onboarding biopharmaceutical manufacturing technicians.

As one of three selected company pairs, Kindeva will receive up to $300,000 in non-dilutive funding to conduct a real-world pilot study under good manufacturing practice (GMP) conditions over a 12-month period.

Through the Level UP-XR program, CDMOs and XR technology companies will work together to test immersive training platforms for technicians entering GMP environments. The pilot will compare the impact of XR-based onboarding outcomes with Kindeva’s established non-XR training protocols to help establish new practices for biopharmaceutical workforce training.

Kindeva brings GMP manufacturing solutions for a range of drug delivery technologies, including pulmonary, nasal, sterile injectable, microneedle and transdermal, to the pilot, creating ample real-world settings to evaluate the XR approach.

The pilot has now launched and is set to run through June 2027 to help enable the biopharmaceutical industry to assess the potential benefits of XR training for biomanufacturing technician onboarding and establish new industry-wide baselines and best practices.
